In streaming, the competition is over finding, not over having. Limoo's library was large, but users left after two fruitless minutes of browsing; continue-watching did not sync between mobile and web either.
The home screen was rearranged around themed rows and "continue watching", and playback state was synced across every device. The player was written from scratch so it could match quality to connection speed.
The poster is the hero of the screen, so the interface got out of the way as far as it could: the player controls fade after a few seconds, and each row's dominant colour comes from the posters in that row.

The minute you stopped at is the same on every device; something half-watched on the phone carries on from that point on the web.
The library was broken into rows that the content team builds and orders itself, with no developer involved.
The player matches quality to bandwidth; on a weak connection the quality drops but playback does not stop.
Every member of the household has their own profile and list, and the recommendations never blur together.
An age rating is enforced on a child's profile, and unlocking it takes a passcode.
Search forgives a misspelling and accepts Latin and Persian titles alike, showing results as you type.
